案例A:帝國理工學(xué)院 - 張同學(xué)
張同學(xué),來自中南大學(xué),土木工程專業(yè),均分85.33,申請目標(biāo)為G5院校。
在收到張同學(xué)的成績單后,李老師發(fā)現(xiàn)成績單里至少十一門核心課程的分?jǐn)?shù)只有70多。雖然選校方案中有愛大、布大等相對成功率較高的學(xué)校,但是因為這些核心課程的成績導(dǎo)致帝國理工學(xué)院、倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院這兩所G5院校的申請難度是有增加的。為了彌補張同學(xué)在成績上的不足,李老師在文書寫作中盡可能地突出其科研項目、實習(xí)等個人經(jīng)歷以展現(xiàn)軟實力、以及對于土木工程專業(yè)的深刻認(rèn)識。
The most tangible changes brought about by the state's economic prosperity must be the towering buildings, elaborately-connected road networks and intricately laid pipelines, all of which fall within the sphere of civil engineering whose goal is to form a well-functioning, comfortable and convenient space for humans. It does not only involve material needs, but also symbolic spiritual pursuits. As it stands, civil engineering constructs the substantial basis for a state's economic and cultural development. For thousands of years, a miraculous change has taken place in the basic form of civil engineering, from the original cave into diverse exquisite high-rises, from above-ground buildings to underground facilities. With the application of new materials and technologies, it can be expected that the civil engineering will march forward into oceans, deserts and even the sky in the near future.
Meanwhile, along with new construction sprouting up, unreasonable and excessive development and utilization of space ensues, and this contradiction is in increasing prominence. To realize a favorable interplay between environment and industry development is both the responsibility and the goal of practitioners in this sector. The same duty goes for me. As I anticipate engaging in the R&D of new engineering materials, which are environmentally friendly and durable, more advanced studies at a leading university is the first but foremost step to fulfill my aspiration.
申請遞交后,張同學(xué)拿到了幾所學(xué)校的錄取,然而,在經(jīng)過一番焦急的等待后,UCL來了審理結(jié)果,是拒信。雖然能夠理解學(xué)校的這一結(jié)果大概率是因為核心課程的分?jǐn)?shù),但是考慮到張同學(xué)有參加不少科研項目和高質(zhì)量競賽等,李老師還是想要幫張同學(xué)爭取一個機(jī)會,于是第一時間聯(lián)系張同學(xué)提出進(jìn)行argue。為了提升argue成功概率,李老師建議補充一些材料并指導(dǎo)了從哪幾個方面準(zhǔn)備,如提供之前參加的項目的論文、匯總本科期間課程上的設(shè)計成果。有不少東西是有現(xiàn)成的中文版的資料的,但是張同學(xué)對于如何梳理、如何選取是迷茫的,李老師憑借豐富的經(jīng)驗給出了非常詳細(xì)的建議以及翻譯上的指導(dǎo),并制作了一封內(nèi)容長達(dá)700多字的郵件,分別作為argue信和love letter的形式發(fā)給了UCL和IC。盡管UCL還是堅持之前的審理結(jié)果就是最終的結(jié)果,但是IC卻在收到郵件的兩周后給張同學(xué)發(fā)來了2021年春節(jié)的最好的新年禮物。
案例B:倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院 -- 陳同學(xué)
陳同學(xué),來自東北師范大學(xué),運動訓(xùn)練,均分85.91,申請目標(biāo)為G5學(xué)校。
學(xué)生的目標(biāo)很明確,就是想沖刺G5學(xué)校,碩士階段想要繼續(xù)學(xué)習(xí)體育運動方面的專業(yè),但是也不排除繼續(xù)進(jìn)學(xué)校擔(dān)任老師的可能,所以李老師在給學(xué)生定位的時候主要是從兩個方面出發(fā)。一是結(jié)合學(xué)生畢業(yè)后擔(dān)任了兩年體育老師的經(jīng)驗,給學(xué)生敲定了教育方向的申請方案,申請的學(xué)校有倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院、牛津大學(xué)、愛丁堡大學(xué)、曼徹斯特大學(xué)、杜倫大學(xué)。二是從學(xué)生的本科專業(yè)出發(fā),敲定了倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院、格拉斯哥大學(xué)和拉夫堡大學(xué)的運動醫(yī)學(xué)和健康相關(guān)專業(yè)。
最終,學(xué)生拿到了包含倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院(教育學(xué))在內(nèi)的多所學(xué)校的offer并最終入讀倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院。
案例C:倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院 -- 劉同學(xué)
劉同學(xué),來自蘭州大學(xué),教育學(xué)專業(yè),GPA3.85/5,想申請杜倫大學(xué)。
劉同學(xué)在開始咨詢的時候告知大四畢業(yè)后已在其他機(jī)構(gòu)申請了,劉同學(xué)的dream school是杜倫大學(xué),但是沒有申請上,第二年想重新申請,申請學(xué)校為倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院、愛丁堡大學(xué)、杜倫大學(xué)和布里斯托大學(xué)。
李老師在看過劉同學(xué)的材料后,發(fā)現(xiàn)劉同學(xué)經(jīng)歷很豐富,在校期間有參加很多活動,但是前一年的申請文書就是簡單地按照時間順序羅列了經(jīng)歷,就像記流水賬,沒有拓展,更別提挖掘經(jīng)歷中的亮點了。在經(jīng)過一番研究后,李老師挑選了劉同學(xué)幾個深度參與的活動,深入挖掘活動中的亮點,并結(jié)合過去一年的教育經(jīng)歷,對劉同學(xué)的經(jīng)歷做了很多的拓展,以突出其對教育學(xué)的興趣和向往。
文書完成后,得到了劉同學(xué)的高度認(rèn)可,最終劉同學(xué)順利拿到申請的全部四所學(xué)校的offer。
Last May, I successfully landed my first job as an educator, working as a lecturer in Offcn Education & Technology Co., Ltd, one of the major vocational education institutions in China. My job responsibility mainly includes providing interview training to students who have passed the written part of civil service examinations. To ensure that each student will be engaged in classroom discussions, I have referred to books and consulted experienced teachers to make the classroom questioning and activities well-designed and innovative. A large proportion of the 20 classes I taught achieved a perfect passing rate of 100% in the interview section of civil service examinations. I had won the First Place in the Interview Teaching Competitions organised by the company and was awarded the title of "Interview Share Star of Offcn Education" for many times, which I consider as the recognition of my teaching performance. On the one hand, my one and half years' teaching experience has made me more determined to devote myself to education and dedicate my life to pass on knowledge. On the other hand, I have dramatically improved my practical teaching skills and have been quite capable of grasping the psychology of students.
案例D:皇家藝術(shù)學(xué)院 -- 鮑同學(xué)
鮑同學(xué),來自東華大學(xué),工業(yè)設(shè)計專業(yè),GPA3.15/4,想申請時裝相關(guān)的專業(yè),最終敲定的方案是中央圣馬丁藝術(shù)與設(shè)計學(xué)院、倫敦時裝學(xué)院和皇家藝術(shù)學(xué)院的時裝相關(guān)專業(yè)。
李老師認(rèn)為,雖然學(xué)生的背景不錯,但是本科專業(yè)與申請的專業(yè)還是有較大的不同。另外,學(xué)生有一年店鋪陳列設(shè)計助理的工作經(jīng)驗,且大學(xué)期間有在GUCCI等企業(yè)實習(xí),所以在文書寫作時突出了鮑同學(xué)的實習(xí),通過實習(xí),了解了行業(yè)的流行趨勢和提升了設(shè)計技巧,并在隨后的工作中加深了對各種材料的特性與加工工藝有了更加深入的了解。
最終鮑同學(xué)成功入讀皇家藝術(shù)學(xué)院(藝術(shù)界的牛津劍橋)。
Moreover, I also immersed myself in internships so as to gain more practical experience and expose myself to the latest fashion trends. In March 2015, I luckily entered the Visual Merchandising Department of GUCCI (China) Trading Co., Ltd. At first, I was allocated some fundamental work such as arranging delivery to send display props to stores in different cities and collecting display information of competitive brands. But I took the initiative to familiarise myself with the products and current trends by searching all kinds of information. And later, I tried to express my ideas about the product display in the regular meetings and I would sometimes explain my ideas with the effect pictures I drew. My ideas were greatly praised by the department colleagues, and I was assigned to shoulder extra responsibility of drawing effect pictures of display. The experience accumulated in this internship helped me to well adapt to the work in Achette Shanghai Co., Ltd. As an intern in the product team of the Marketing Department, I was in charge of the information collection and analysis of the seasonal fashion trends, product display of the store in Shanghai and the selection and procurement of display props. This internship had further enhanced my insight into fashion trends and determination to be part of the fashion industry.
