    The Master of Finance is designed for graduates who have completed a finance major in their undergraduate program and who are looking to develop their finance skills by studying more advanced finance topics. There are five streams: ?Master of Finance (General Finance) ?Master of Finance (Corporate Finance) ?Master of Finance (Funds Management) ?Master of Finance (International Finance) ?Master of Finance (Investment Banking) The Master of Finance program is taught on-campus. The typical duration is one year of full-time study and 2-4 years part-time. Entry to this program requires a Bachelor degree with a major in finance from a recognised institution (or overseas qualifications deemed equivalent) with a credit average overall, and with a credit average in the finance undergraduate major or equivalent. Candidates must also have demonstrated competence in mathematical and statistical methods. The Master of Finance is developed and managed in close consultation with the finance sector and offers advanced disciplinary depth, exposing students to latest thinking and current research in finance. Applied learning activities, both in and out of classroom, ensure participants are familiar with and can undertake critical analysis of the latest theories, techniques and practices in a chosen subject area.

    (1) A candidate for the degree shall have been awarded an appropriate degree of Bachelor from the University of New South Wales or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution at a level acceptable to the Committee. (2) An applicant who submits evidence of such other academic or professional attainment as may be approved by the Committee may be permitted to enrol for the degree. (3) When the Committee is not satisfied with the qualifications submitted by an applicant the Committee may require the applicant, before being permitted to enrol, to undergo such examination or carry out such work the Committee may prescribe.
    Mining engineering is an international profession with Australia's major mining companies operating in South East Asia, Africa, South and North America and Europe, and our graduates have the opportunity to travel in their work if they so desire. Mining Engineering graduates are trained to be versatile, adaptable and responsive to change in a physically and mentally challenging career. The School offers the research degree Master of Engineering in Mining Engineering. The research degrees may also be undertaken externally by staff employed full time in the industry over a longer duration.

    Applicants without a strong mathematical background may be advised to complete the Institute of Actuaries Foundation course, and demonstrate adequate mathematical performance on the self-assessed test. Session 2 courses in Actuarial Studies assume that students have the required background knowledge from previous studies. Prospective students who plan to commence in Session 2 should consult the Actuarial Studies School office prior to application in order to determine if they have the required background. Students who have a very strong background in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics or Finance and Financial Mathematics may be allowed to enrol in the 2nd session Actuarial Studies courses. Approval must be obtained from Actuarial Studies before enrolling in these courses.
    The Master of Actuarial Studies (Extension) enables students from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds to study an advanced program in actuarial studies covering the syllabus of the actuarial profession. The MActSt (Ext) lengthens the MActSt allowing students to include an additional 4 courses (24UOC) from the more advanced postgraduate actuarial studies courses or to include course options from related disciplines in the university such as economics, finance, or statistics.

    Entry into this Master's program requires the completion of a 4-year non-accredited (under the Washington Accord) Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline. Alternatively, eligible applicants include those who hold a 3-year Engineering Science degree in a cognate discipline, at least equivalent to the first three years of an Engineering degree accredited under the Washington accord. A minimum overall average of at least 65%, or equivalent, over the duration of the qualifying Bachelor's degree is also required. A pathway for entry into the program for graduates from both 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degrees in non-cognate disciplines, and 3-year Bachelor of Science degrees, exists via enrolment first into the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) program, where advanced standing (to a maximum of 2 years) may be granted.
    The Faculty of Engineering offers a two year Masters Degree program. The program comprises streams leading to a Master of Engineering. Flexibility and choice are maintained throughout the two year program by providing many elective courses. It serves as an entry point for students to move into the engineering profession.
