Women's Health Medicine is a rapidly expanding and diverse field of practice. It encompasses the timely provision of sexual and reproductive care, pre-pregnancy and pregnancy care as well as the management of female specific conditions and malignancies. Increasing numbers of medical practitioners are developing special interests in this area – in particular General Practitioners, family planning practitioners and generalist gynaecologists. Significant career opportunities exist for those with demonstrable skills and knowledge in this field. In addition there are similar specialisations emerging in nursing and counselling, and amongst biological scientists. This program offers an entirely web-based study program enabling participants to effectively integrate their learning into their daily professional life without the costly disruption that face-to-face coursework entails. Individual courses within the Program have been developed so as to provide a practice-based and authentic approach to this field of study.

The Master of Applied Linguistics (MAppLing) is made up of postgraduate courses that extend and deepen students' existing skills, knowledge and understanding in professionally relevant fields of study, as well as teaching advanced skills in research and analytical thinking. It is equally suitable for people wishing to switch to an academic or professional field different from the one they studied at undergraduate level. The MAppLing can serve as a pathway to higher degree research for students who have not completed a four year BA(Honours) with a research component in the relevant area of study. Linguistics is the study of human language. Its practitioners address questions such as: How do people use language in various situations? What is the biological basis for language? Is language unique to the human species? How and why do languages change? How do children learn language? What is the meaning of 'meaning'? Can machines talk? Linguistics also provides a basis for a variety of practical applications, including the teaching and learning of foreign languages, translating and interpreting, facilitating cross-cultural communication, diagnosing and treating language disorders, providing linguistic support for such professions as law and medicine, developing language curricula in schools, improving literacy skills, generating speech by computer, producing 'plain English' documents, and so on.

  • Entry into this Master's program requires the completion of a 4-year non-accredited (under the Washington Accord) Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline. Alternatively, eligible applicants include those who hold a 3-year Engineering Science degree in a cognate discipline, at least equivalent to the first three years of an Engineering degree accredited under the Washington accord. A minimum overall average of at least 70%, or equivalent, over the duration of the qualifying Bachelor's degree is also required. A pathway for entry into the program for graduates from both 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degrees in non-cognate disciplines, and 3-year Bachelor of Science degrees, exists via enrolment first into the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) program, where advanced standing (to a maximum of 2 years) may be granted.

  • his specialisation provides students with advanced study options across a range of topics in geospatial engineering. This includes advanced surveying, modern geodesy and geopositioning, GPS/GNSS technology, geospatial image analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. The program provides critical knowledge about the science and practice of Geospatial Engineering. This knowledge is required for students who are moving into the industry or staying in the graduate program to pursue their PhD studies. There are a number of specific Surveying and Geospatial Engineering facilities within the School at UNSW, including: ■ State-of-the-art computing facilities essential to this very IT-intensive discipline ■ A wide variety of GPS/GNSS equipment for tracking GPS, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS and Beidou ■ Leica C5 Laser scanner and its software ■ Sensefly Swinglet Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and software ■ Spirent GSS6560 GPS RF signal simulator with INS upgrade ■ Two GPS software receivers: the DataFusion Matlab receiver, and the NordNav R30 ■ Altera FPGA development systems ■ A large number of GPS Software Development Kits, inertial navigation sensors, pseudolites, wireless comms and UHF radio equipment. Plus a range of ancillary equipment to support research into GPS and other wireless location technologies ■ A range of GPS software systems (many developed in-house) as well as the GAMIT and the Bernese software packages ■ Software for SAR and InSAR data processing (some of which are developed in-house), as well as the APP and EV InSAR (Atlantis, Canada), PulSAR (Phoenix Systems, UK), ROI-PAC (JPL, USA) and DORIS (Delft University of Technology, Netherlands) ■ Software packages to aid teaching and research for field-to-finish surveying systems: Leica Geomatics Office, GEOCOMP, CIVILCAD and AUTOCAD ■ Other software support, such as MATLAB, RTK- Lib, UAS/UAV mapping systems and more. The Master of Engineering Science program promotes flexible learning as a keystone of the program – it is designed for students who already have a four year accredited engineering degree and who now wish to broaden their job prospects through cross training, re-training or specialisation. This program takes two years to complete (students may be granted credit for some courses. Those with a degree or extensive professional experience in a related area can apply for credit of up to 50% of a program); it is a non-accredited program, and does not offer industrial training.
