The Graduate Certificate in Music is a six month program for students from other disciplines wanting to undertake graduate level study in music. The program can be used as credit towards the Graduate Diploma in Music, which may in turn be used as a stepping stone to masters level programs.

A Graduate Certificate allows you to complete a comprehensive six-month course of study, choosing from more than 25 discipline areas. It is particularly useful if you are returning to tertiary study after time away from an academic environment.

Applicants to the Graduate Certificate of Arts and Community Engagment must meet the following criteria: An undergraduate degree in the arts (across art forms such as the performing arts, music, visual arts, film, dance and digital arts); or A complementary degree in associated areas such as social sciences, cultural studies, applied sciences, international development and/or the design industry sector (i.e. architecture, landscape, computer science); or The equivalent of 3 years professional practice in the creative arts industry.

The Graduate Certificate in Arts and Community Engagement is an introduction to arts and community engagement project development within the broad practice of community-based arts practice. It is a highly practical and skill based study program that is underpinned by arts and cultural theoretical frameworks, reading discussions, visiting guest speakers, group workshops and individual goal setting.

You will gain an advanced knowledge of the technical aspects of the of the spoken voice and be able to apply these skills systematically and coherently in your existing discipline or professional area. During the program your knowledge is extended through research based practice and teaching and by applying this knowledge to: the understanding of the relationship between the actor’s voice and classical and contemporary texts; working with the spoken voice in individual and group settings; developing sound diagnostic skills to evaluate idiosyncratic vocal and consolidating and synthesising your cognitive understanding of the anatomy of the voice to practical problem-solving solutions with groups and individuals through the application of sound pedagogical approaches.

This program is designed to combine instruction and practical experience in editing and publishing with analysis of publishing in its cultural, technological and commercial contexts.
