    The Master of Translation Studies will provide students with world class specialised translation training. Designed for graduates pursuing bilingual and multilingual careers, this professional course is the first of its kind to be taught in Western Australia. The course provides a strong research training component, combined with an emphasis on practical skill acquisition. A Chinese translation of the course information is also available. In response to industry demand a Chinese Interpreting specialisation will be introduced in 2017.

    This course is delivered by The Australian Urban Design Research Centre. Tasks include researching, writing and overseeing the production of publications, posters or brochures; preparing publicity material or media releases; designing exhibitions and displays; communicating with the media and delivering talks and presentations to the public. Science communicators combine skills in written and verbal communication with their scientific knowledge, so they can bridge the gap between the scientific community and the public.

    (1) To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have— (a) a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent2 qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (b) at least one year of the bachelor’s degree relevant to one or more learning areas in the Early Childhood school curriculum. (2) Applicants who have a bachelor's degree in education, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA, are not eligible for admission. (3) Applicants with qualifications from institutions where English is not the medium of instruction must provide evidence of English Language Competence, with applicants presenting with the IELTS Academic requiring an overall score of at least 7.5, with no sub-score less than 7.0, and no less than 8.0 in speaking and listening. Applicants presenting with the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) require an overall grade of B or above, with a score of ‘exceptional' for listening and speaking, and at least ‘good' for reading and writing. (4) Applicants with qualifications gained wholly in English from countries other than Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America must provide evidence of English Language Competence in accordance with the requirements of the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. (5) An English bridging course is not regarded as evidence of English Language Competence. (6) International students must obtain a criminal record check from their country of origin or recent residence. 1The equivalent qualification must be at a level of academic achievement considered by UWA to be sufficient to permit satisfactory completion of the course. The equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 60 is used as a guide to decision making, however, admission to the course is competitive.
    Literacy, numeracy and the use of ICT in teaching and learning are given particular emphasis in the Master of Teaching (Primary) course. Our students are taught to create engaging integrated programs for children across a range of learning areas including Science, History, Geography and the Arts. A special feature of this course is the final semester, in which students can choose to deepen their knowledge, skills and confidence in a particular area of professional practice through an interventions stream. Many of the units include a school-based component as we believe that theory and practice need to be tightly interwoven.
