To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—
(a) a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and
(i) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 60 percent; or
(ii) a valid Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score of at least 5501; or
(iii) at least five years of relevant documented professional experience considered by UWA to be sufficient to permit satisfactory completion of the course;
or
(b) a UWA graduate certificate which articulates with this course with a weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent;
or
(c) a graduate certificate or equivalent from an equivalent and accredited course from another institution, with a weighted average mark of at least 70 per cent.

Applicants are expected to have a Bachelor of Music with at least upper second class honours or equivalent.
An applicant who does not have a Bachelor of Music with at least upper second class honours, or whose major field of study has not been music, may be required to pass a qualifying examination or undertake preliminary study.
Applicants for the Master of Music (in performance) who have not received their undergraduate degree from the UWA School of Music, or whose degree was awarded three or more years from the date of application, may be required to pass an admission audition for the School before lodging an application with the Graduate Research School.
Master of Music (in composition) students are required to present for examination a folio of compositions, which show technical accomplishment and imaginative resource, and a thesis (of 12,000 to 15,000 words) on a topic related to one or more aspects of the composition.
Master of Music (in performance) students are required to present for examination one recital of normally 65 to 80 minutes' duration, which demonstrates advanced technical and interpretative accomplishment, and a thesis (of 12,000 to 15,000 words) on a topic related to one or more aspects of the performance.

The Master of Philosophy is a program of independent, supervised research and is assessed solely on the basis of a thesis. It is a highly flexible course that mirrors the structure and breadth of the Doctor of Philosophy.

To be provisionally accepted into the course for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, an applicant must—
(a) have a bachelor's degree with at least upper second class honours in an appropriate subject area or a qualification recognised by the Board of the Graduate Research School as equivalent;
or
(b) have a bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification recognised by the Board as equivalent, and be able to satisfy the Board that they have had adequate research preparation since graduation;
or
(c) be a recipient of a University scholarship for PhD study awarded by the Scholarships Committee of the Board;
or
(d)(i) have previously undertaken work, which in the Board's opinion is of a sufficiently high standard, towards a higher degree by research in this or another approved institution but not have submitted it for any degree; and
(ii) have completed and had approved by the Board, on the recommendation of the supervisor and the head of school, a PhD research proposal;

(e)(i) have the degree of bachelor of this University or have a qualification recognised by the Board as equivalent, and have since graduation passed a preliminary examination as described in the University Policy on the Higher Degree by Research Preliminary Course in the subject area in which research is to be undertaken; and
